Apple Cups - A Way to Fall-ify Your Cocktails + Sea Salt Caramel Apple Spice Cocktail

by 11 September 24, 2014

If you have been on Pinterest at all, ever in your life (at this point, who hasn't?!), it is very likely you have seen a recipe for ice cream stuffed into an apple and covered with caramel (like this here). When I was thinking of recipes to share with you ladies, all that kept popping into my mind were those dang cute apples. I wanted to know how I could take that recipe and make it my own. It finally dawned on me...why not make it a cup? One of my favorite thingS about blogging is getting to style the food I share with you luvvs. It's so fun to figure out how to make food special and inventive. This apple cup exceeds all of my wishes for cuteness. By taking a simple apple, you can turn a fall cocktail from a fun drink to share with friends to an experience to share with friends. Follow along below to figure out how to make what could be the most adorable fall drink of all time.

APPLE CUPS

INGREDIENTS

Apples (Of whatever sort!) Melon Baller (technically a tool, but you'll need it)

Directions Your friends, children, and husband are going to think you are the true master of knives when they see this, but really you and I will know that creating these was simpler than it appears. Your first step is to wash your apples and then to cut off the top.

Then take your melon baller and hollow out the middle. Make sure to leave about 1/4th of an inch around the skin. You want your apple to be sturdy and not lose any of the delicious recipe I'm about to give you.

Once you have hollowed out the amount of apples you want to use, you can either serve immediately or store for the next day. If you plan on storing these, you will need to rub the inside of the apple with lemon juice to keep it from browning. Keep the top part of the apple you cut off if you'd like to use it as a lid!

SALTED APPLE CARAMEL SPICE COCKTAIL

1 oz Salted Caramel Vodka (Pinnacle make a version that's pretty popular) Sea Salt 1 cup Apple Cider Cinnamon to garnish Cloves Caramel (optional!) Now is the time to start ushering in those bottles of Martinelli's apple cider. If I had to bottle up what fall smells like, it would be the taste of warm apple cider. Apple cider is a wonderful way to end a cool night. On those nights when you need a little night-cap, or on nights where you are hosting a dinner with friends, this cocktail will provide exactly what you want. In a glass (not the apple cup!), pour your heated apple cider, and your ounce of salted caramel vodka and mix. Then line the apple cup with salt. If you've just cut your apple, it should still be wet enough that you can do this without water. If you prepared them the night before, gently wet the top of the apple and make a sugar/salt mixture and line the rims of your apples like so...

Then pour the mixture you made into your apple. Garnish with cloves and a cinnamon stick.  Add warm caramel sauce on top to give it a little more sweetness. There are quite a few fun ways you can use these apple cups for fall. The salted caramel apple spice cocktail is just ONE way to enjoy this alluring autumnal treat.
