browned butter chocolate chip cookies with sea salt

i am always on the quest for the greatest cookie recipe there is. lately i've been hearing all about browning butter and adding it to your cookie dough, so i thought what's not to lose? i also thought: hey wouldn't it be awesome if i added a little sea salt to the tops? i love the combo of salty+sweet, i mean honestly: who doesn't? so here it is my new and improved batch of chocolate chip cookies.

first, i threw 2 sticks of butter into a sauce pan and heated it up. i cooked the butter until it was a dark brown.

then, i poured it into a bowl to cool off for AT LEAST 5 minutes. this is the coloring it should be.

from then on you make your cookies like you usually would!

here is what you'll need:

       Ingredients
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) butter, browned
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 cups (12-oz. pkg.)
  • 1 cup chopped nuts (i used pecans)
  • preheat your oven to 375 degrees. mix together your butter & sugars with vanilla. add your eggs one at a time mixing after each addition. add all dry ingredients and mix together, followed by your chocolate chips & nuts.

drop cookie dough onto parchment paper covered baking sheet and sprinkle tops with coarse sea salt. however much you would like! even if you don't add the sea salt to the tops these cookies are still amazing! i made some with salt for the husband and i, and without salt for the kids who don't know what's good.

bake for 8-10 minutes and transfer to cooling racks. you won't be disappointed!
