Today's DIY is extra useful this time of year, with the warm summer nights and beautiful farmer's market mornings! My mom bought me this sweet little bike as an early birthday gift a few weeks ago. I have been searching and searching for the perfect basket, but the only ones that I could find were either cheesy looking or way too big/expensive. I decided I could make one that was cuter and cheaper, so I am going to share with you luvvies exactly how I accomplished such a thing.
You will need:
-Craft paint in the accent color of your choice
-A small paintbrush
-Either some sturdy string or some wire
The most difficult part for me was finding the right basket. The size will depend on your bike and what you will be using it for, but you definitely want to find a basket that has flat sides to rest up against your bike. I would suggest checking thrift stores or garage sale first, because baskets can be a little bit pricey. I purchased this one at my local Goodwill for $1.00. Once you find the right basket, it is time to get to painting! I just used the remainder of a can of ivory spray paint I found in my cabinet. If you are buying a new can, make sure is outdoor-friendly!
The way you paint your basket is totally up to you, so have fun with it! If you like a lot of color, you certainly don't have to limit yourself to one accent color. As you luvvies can see, I painted mine base upon the way the basket was woven.
When you are don't painting, you are ready to attach your basket to your bike! I used a really strong string for this DIY, but I think I will probably go back and swap it out for wire. It depends on how heavy your cargo will be. Here I just threaded the string though the weaves in my basket and around my bike bar in a couple of different places and secured each one with a tight knot.
