DIY Striped Sneakers

by 5 August 01, 2013

photo-7Lately I cannot get enough comfy footwear. Perhaps this is because my job requires me to be on my feet fairly often. While I love a good pair of heels as much as the next girl, I have recently been gravitating towards fun and funky sneakers. For this week's DIY, I decided to experiment with a simple striped pattern to add some flare to my comfy footwear.

IMG_2344You will need:

-One pair of solid tennis shoes (Mine were purchased at Target)

-A pair of scissors

-A role of tape

-One bottle of craft paint in the color of your choice

-A paintbrush

IMG_2346First, use your scissors to cut strips of tape and place them horizontally on the toe of your shoes. I chose to apply the stripes to one whole section of my shoes, so I placed tape along the sides as well. As you can see, I had difficulty getting my tape to adhere to the fabric. It stuck better to the rubber though, so it is a good idea to make your strips of tape long enough that they reach the shoe sole.

IMG_2348Next, paint in the spaces between the tape with the paint color you chose. It took two layers of paint before I was satisfied with the color I was getting.

IMG_2351Here comes the fun part: rip your tape off to see how your stripes turned out!

IMG_2352All in all, I am pretty happy with my jazzed-up new kicks. This was kind of my test-run for working with shoes, but it gave me a lot more fun ideas that I would love to try in the future.  Have you ladies ever tried a DIY involving sneakers?? If so, we would love to see!

See you luvvies next Thursday!
