Editor's Picks: Best Drugstore Dry Shampoos

by 2 May 09, 2016

I think it's safe to say that dry shampoo has become a staple beauty product. That's most definitely the case in my bathroom (which happens to be covered in a fine, powdery mist of dry shampoo at this very moment). And after a couple of years of steadily using dry shampoo to "extend my hairstyle," (aka, "avoid washing/drying/styling my hair"), I think I can effectively assess which wallet-friendly brands are most successful at keeping your hair looking brilliant, even on day three of no washing. Read on to see which drugstore dry shampoo products make my list. drugstore dry shampoo (7) Background: Dry shampoos have been around for decades, but have gained recent popularity in the wake of the blow-out fad. Gals were seeking a way to make their expensive blow-out styles last longer, and drugstore beauty brands raced to answer that call. Essentially, dry shampoo powders and sprays contain starches that soak up excess oils, giving new life to otherwise weighed-down, greasy hair. Plus they smell nice and make you feel clean, even if you've skipped your shower. My faves: Batiste is the OG dry shampoo. It's been around (in the UK) for years, and it has several different formulas depending on your hair needs. For the dark-haired beauties out there, they have a special formula that won't leave white streaks; if you have fine hair like I do, you'll want to check out their XXL Plumping Powder. Read more about each one here. batisteDove Refresh + Care Invigorating Dry Shampoo gives you the cleanest feeling, in my opinion. Maybe I'm just a sucker for that wonderful, powdery fragrance that Dove is known for. Either way, I love the Dove formula because it's light and doesn't feel cakey on your scalp-- and it's totally inexpensive. Check it out here. dove TreSEMME's Fresh Start Volumizing Dry Shampoo. Ok, I know it feels like I've been pushing a lot of TreSEMME products on you lately, and NO, I'm not sponsored (although I wish I were, no lie). Truthfully, I just love the whole TreSEMME line. Their products work wonders on my fine little baby hairs, including this amazing dry shampoo. No flowery scents, no bells or whistles-- just awesome volume and oil-absorbtion at an unbeatable price. This one comes highly recommended, both from other beauty bloggers and my cousin Amy, who has never been wrong about anything beauty-related. Read all about it here. salon grafix And the winner is: Clean Freak Dry Shampoo from Not Your Mother's hair care line. Hands down, this is my go-to for dry shampoo on the cheap. It smells amazing without being overpowering, it gives incredible lift, volume and shine, and it doesn't show up white when you spray it in your hair. Clean Freak is one of many NYM products in my bathroom cabinet, and for good reason(s): not only do they provide awesome hair care at an awesome price, but they do not test on animals. Win-win.
