Everything's Coming Up Roses - Rose Syrup

by 11 February 04, 2015

Hey, have you heard of this holiday dedicated to love? It's called something like Valentine's Day, and it's creeping up on us fast. You know your HL girls luvv Valentine's Day, and we want to help you make this one your best yet. For me, as a lover of food, that means figuring out a way to make this holiday food-based (as all holidays should be). Flowers are nice but sweets are better, so I figured out a way to combine BOTH. Have you tried anything with rose water before? If not, you need to. It's fresh, light, slightly fragrant, and perfect for this luvv-filled holiday. Today, I'm going to teach you how to make a basic rose syrup. Next week, I'll bring you a cake and cocktail using this syrup that will be a perfect fit for your Valentine's Day (single or taken!).

ROSE SYRUP

rose water, rose syrup, simple syrups, rose flavors, cocktails,

INGREDIENTS

2 cups of rosewater 2.5 cups of sugar 2 cups of water

DIRECTIONS

First of all, you need to acquire some delicious rose water. You can do this in two ways:  either make your own rose water or buy it. If you don't know where to begin shopping for rosewater, try one of your local Asian markets, natural food stores, or specialty markets. Or! Because we live in an amazing world where we can order anything online at the drop of a hat,  you can go to Amazon and order here.   From my research, the Cortas brand has some great reviews and has a strong rose taste. This recipe will yield quite a bit of simple syrup because we need enough for luvvly cocktails and for cake! Note: simple syrup when chilled in a sealed container will last about a month.

rose water, rose syrup, simple syrups, rose flavors, cocktails, If you plan on making your own rose water, I suggest following this recipe from Free People. This tells you two ways to make homemade rose water. Please make sure if you follow it, you use organic roses only. This will also be true for any roses you plan on using decoratively for your food or cocktails. As a bonus, once you have this rose water, you can use it for lots of natural beauty remedies and for subtle perfumes. To make the simple syrup combine the water, rosewater, and sugar in a saucepan. Bring it to a boil and stir until the sugar is dissolved. Once the sugar is dissolved, pour into a sealed container and chill it. Now you're ready to make everything come up roses for this Valentine's Day. Can't wait to bring the rest of this to you luvvs next week (MUAH!). Stop and smell the roses, but also eat and smell like them too. Happy Eats My Sweets, melinda-sig
