HL's August Edit—Back to the grind!

by 1 August 08, 2016

It's hard to believe that summer is almost over (insert sad face here). I'm definitely not ready to say goodbye to the long lazy days, the pool-time, or especially the extra time I've had with my teacher friends (I'm talking to you Katie and Melinda). Selfishly, I want it to always be summer. And while we have a couple weeks left until it's official, we thought we would go ahead and get our heads in the right place. It's back to the grind, luvvs-- whether we like it or not. Here at HL we have even taken a few weeks off—something we have never done in the three and half years we've been blogging on this site. And let me tell you, it was wonderful. I didn't even post on Instagram! While I know all blogging principles go completely against this, I highly recommend it. You may not be a blogger, but there may be something in your life that you need to step away from to regroup and recharge. Do it. Don't hesitate. Even if it's something you love, we all need those times to reset and refresh and that is what summer is all about. I'm thankful for the time away and we're ready to bring you some fun, fresh content in the coming months. When I think of getting "back to the grind," I think of buckling down with my new planner and just hashing it out—writing down all the "to-do's" and dreaming of happily crossing them off when they are completed. I think of weekends spent at home getting the house cleaned up, meals prepped for the week and my style and beauty routine simplified. It's time for the 5 minute face, that go-to blazer, and simplified meals that will keep us energized. That's what this edit is all about and that's what you'll be seeing throughout the month here on HL. August Edit1. I'm starting out this list with pretty much everything Sugar Paper for Target. They have beautiful scissors, staplers, (2.) pencils, etc. Pretty much anything to get your desk and professional life organized stylishly. 3. The third thing on this list are some kicks perfect for everyday wear. You can throw them on with jeans, dress pants and even a skirt for a modern look. If your job requires you to be on your feet for 8+ hours these are the sneakers for you. Did I mention they are only $60? Score! 4. Oh, ya know; just that fresh new planner we all crave starting in August. Lately, I've been crazy for the full-sized notebook planners. I love using it to write down ideas, take notes and make grocery lists. This is another great item from Sugar Paper for Target and it comes in some other fabulous designs. 5. "Can I get that to go?" We all know your employer's cafeteria may not be the most stellar, so if you're bringing something from home these little storage bowels are perfect and adorable. 6. Need a laptop cover? I'm luvving this one. It could seriously pass for a clutch...hmmm that's not a bad idea. ;) 7. For getting back to the grind, you need a nail color that is classy and will go with everything. Thank you Butter London for providing. 8. If you've been in the workforce for a few years and you can afford a classy carry-all then this is your go-to. It can hold your laptop, lunch and everything else you need to get you through the day. 9. This closet staple is a must. Personally, I love this navy blue one from Banana Republic because of its slim fit and it goes with everything. 10. Your beauty routine may start to edge into some fall colors later this month and this eye shadow palette by Mally Beauty will get you there beautifully.
