Homemade Blackberry Pop-Tarts

by 11 September 16, 2015

I've always wanted to attempt making homemade pop-tarts, and now I finally have this week with the blackberry pop-tarts I've brought you today! Last week I brought you these adorable options for a gender reveal dessert and asked which one you guys wanted me to make. Technically the bundt cake won by one vote! I got ready to make you a bundt cake and ordered a bundt pan last week from Amazon. However, it STILL hasn't arrived. Thus I went with first runner up - the homemade pop-tart!blackberry, blackberry pop-tart, pop-tart, homemade pop-tarts, homemade blackberry pop-tarts, gender reveal, gender reveal desserts, blackberry desserts, lemon vanilla icing, lemon and blackberry Homemade pop-tarts make for an excellent dessert. They're more decadent (and yummier!) than those old boxed ones. Once you make this recipe, I'm not sure that you'll go back to your old toaster pop-tart ways.

HOMEMADE BLACKBERRY POP-TARTS

Ingredients

Pop-tart  2 Pastry Puff sheets 1 cup of blackberry jam 1 tablespoon of corn starch 1 tablespoon of water 1 teaspoon of lemon Icing  1 cup of powdered sugar 1 tablespoon of melted butter 1 teaspoon of lemon juice. 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla 1 tablespoon of milk Cook at 375 for 10 minutes Directions First step is to make your awesome blackberry filling. For this, simply combine the blackberry jam, cornstarch, and water in a small pan. Once mixed, bring the filling to a boil. It will boil fairly quickly, so I wouldn't work on anything else while it is boiling. After removing the blackberry mixture, toss in the teaspoon of lemon. The lemon cuts down on the sweetness so it's not too much. Plus it will compliment the icing nicely.  You will want the mixture to cool before filling the pastries.blackberry, blackberry pop-tart, pop-tart, homemade pop-tarts, homemade blackberry pop-tarts, gender reveal, gender reveal desserts, blackberry desserts, lemon vanilla icing, lemon and blackberry We're having a boy, so I attempted to make this blackberry, blue. I knew the blackberry would be closer to purple than blue, but thought maybe food coloring could bring out a blue-er color. For those of you wondering why I didn't just buy blackberry jam, the blueberry jam is the exact same color as blackberry, and I definitely prefer blackberry flavor over blueberry, so I listened to my belly.  The food coloring didn't really make it blue like I hoped..  I still think it would suffice for a gender reveal because it would obviously not be pink. If you were having a girl, you could fix this by using strawberry which will look verrrry pink. While the filling is cooling, set out your pastry puff sheets. You will cut these into separate pieces, approximately 2 inches by 1 inch. Use your judgement with this. I did mini versions of the pop-tart, but if you want bigger ones, you could up it to 4 by 3.blackberry, blackberry pop-tart, pop-tart, homemade pop-tarts, homemade blackberry pop-tarts, gender reveal, gender reveal desserts, blackberry desserts, lemon vanilla icing, lemon and blackberry Now that the pieces are cut, match up the separate pieces so that you have a pair of slices. After you have the pair, you will put the filling on one side of the pair. Use about 1 tablespoon per pastry. Once it's the filling is on one side, take the other side of the pair and place it on top of the filling. blackberry, blackberry pop-tart, pop-tart, homemade pop-tarts, homemade blackberry pop-tarts, gender reveal, gender reveal desserts, blackberry desserts, lemon vanilla icing, lemon and blackberry blackberry, blackberry pop-tart, pop-tart, homemade pop-tarts, homemade blackberry pop-tarts, gender reveal, gender reveal desserts, blackberry desserts, lemon vanilla icing, lemon and blackberry blackberry, blackberry pop-tart, pop-tart, homemade pop-tarts, homemade blackberry pop-tarts, gender reveal, gender reveal desserts, blackberry desserts, lemon vanilla icing, lemon and blackberry Next, take your fork and press around the edges to seal the pastry. blackberry, blackberry pop-tart, pop-tart, homemade pop-tarts, homemade blackberry pop-tarts, gender reveal, gender reveal desserts, blackberry desserts, lemon vanilla icing, lemon and blackberry blackberry, blackberry pop-tart, pop-tart, homemade pop-tarts, homemade blackberry pop-tarts, gender reveal, gender reveal desserts, blackberry desserts, lemon vanilla icing, lemon and blackberry I put some of these pastries on skewers to make them like little flags! blackberry, blackberry pop-tart, pop-tart, homemade pop-tarts, homemade blackberry pop-tarts, gender reveal, gender reveal desserts, blackberry desserts, lemon vanilla icing, lemon and blackberry Lastly, it's time to cook these beautiful pop-tarts.
