Just so you all know, I wanted to write about Beyoncé and her new album today.
But since Holiday Party Season is in full swing and New Years Eve looms just around the corner, I thought it best to do a fun and hopefully inspirational party makeup post. But don’t you worry: the Beyoncé article is coming.
I always love when I can pull off something a little out of the ordinary in my makeup routine; with the right amount of confidence, you can really make an unconventional makeup look work for you. I think that HPS is the perfect time to try out some of the wilder cosmetic products and trends. Here are my suggestions for making your Holiday Party Face rock.
1) Funky Eye Makeup
It seems pretty obvious that you’d do heavier eye makeup for a party. But there are always looks that can take your face to another level.[caption id="attachment_4866" align="aligncenter" width="443"] one simple way to turn up your holiday glamour is to do double-winged cat eye liner. it adds immediate drama to whatever shadow it accompanies. tutorial here.[/caption] [caption id="attachment_4871" align="aligncenter" width="480"] as you all know, i'm obsessed with sixties-inspired makeup. this look, called a "cut crease," is sure to dazzle your fellow party-goers. Tutorial here.[/caption]
2) False Lashes
Confession time: I wore false lashes ALL THE TIME in college. My roommates and I got really good at putting on the single lash extensions, so we pretty much rocked them constantly. Here are ways to turn out the boring old false-lash look.[caption id="attachment_4869" align="aligncenter" width="445"] the individual false lashes always look better than the strips. they are pretty easy to apply once you get the hang of it, and you can thicken and lengthen to best suit your party look.[/caption] [caption id="attachment_4870" align="aligncenter" width="259"] to really bring the party, try a strip false lash set with a little sparkle. the glittered lashes are subtle and can be found at ulta or sephora.[/caption]
3) Colored Lashes/ Brows
Okay—this one might feel like a stretch for some of us. But again, if you can’t wear this look during HPS, you’ll be waiting until Halloween to try out these festive (and oh-so-dope) colored lashes and/ or brows.[caption id="attachment_4865" align="aligncenter" width="397"] you should recognize this pretty face: i'm obsessed with cara delevigne and these purple lashes have only furthered my love.[/caption] [caption id="attachment_4863" align="aligncenter" width="236"] if these brows feel a little hunger games-y, that's because i saw the movie over the weekend and i am really digging the colorful brow trend.[/caption] [caption id="attachment_4864" align="aligncenter" width="444"] no bleach neccessary: to pull off the colored brows, just use a glue stick and your foundation or concealer to create a nude base for the colored shadow or pigment. read more about this look here.[/caption]
4) Super-bright Lips
Now y’all know your girl loves some brightly-colored lips. While most gals will be sticking with their wine-tinted pouts, why not shake things up a bit with a pop of pink or a dash of neon red? Or maybe even a cool lavender?[caption id="attachment_4861" align="aligncenter" width="300"] i think this orangey-red lip looks so cool and casual.[/caption] [caption id="attachment_4873" align="aligncenter" width="512"] i am just dying over the new orchid/lavender makeup trend. it's pretty and feminine while still being a little bit edgy.[/caption]
It’s HPS and glitter is pretty much a part of every outfit, piece of jewelry, and decoration. For your upcoming New Years Eve extravaganza, why not bring the razzle-dazzle to your face with some “tasteful glitter.” (Yes, I made that term up and I’m sticking with it.)[caption id="attachment_4867" align="aligncenter" width="512"] here's a pretty basic glittery eye look: nice gold and browns highlighted by pretty gold and silver glitter. perfect for HPS.[/caption] [caption id="attachment_4868" align="aligncenter" width="380"] as much as i love gold glitter, i think this silver look is equally fab. to copy, try this.[/caption]
Now ladies, remember that all good things – including rad makeup – should be enjoyed in moderation. Please do not combine the top five suggestions into full-on Ke$ha Drag Face. Instead, as we’ve discussed before, highlight one focal point and turn it up to eleven.
Share your Holiday Party Faces with us on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and Pinterest; we’d love to see how you’re sparkling this season! Now go put on some lipstick.
