Attention, sensitive –skinned luvvies: today’s Makeup Monday post is just for you. For the rest of you, take a few moments to google the ingredients found in your favorite drugstore and department store products. Frightening, isn’t it? Wouldn’t it be nice if there were a place to find homemade, natural, gentle products with truly rich pigments and legit wearability?
Allow me to introduce Willow Tree Minerals, my (and your soon-to-be) new favorite Etsy shop. Willow Tree offers completely natural mineral makeup and various body care products. The shop’s owner, Lora, understands the plight of those with fickle skin; therefore, her shop features cosmetics, cleansers, soaps and creams made from the purest, sweetest ingredients available.
After combing through the hundreds of beautiful items on Willow Tree – and motivated by my summer goal to incorporate more color into my eye makeup – I decided to order the Pure and Natural Mineral Eye Shadow in Cool Breeze, the Natural Mineral Eye Liner Pencil in Navy Nights, and the All Natural Mineral Lip Shimmer in Strawberry Sorbet.
When my order arrived, I immediately posted up in my bathroom to play with my new jewel-toned goodies, with quite pleasing results.[caption id="attachment_2747" align="aligncenter" width="540"] neutral lid + Navy Nights eye pencil[/caption] [caption id="attachment_2750" align="aligncenter" width="378"] neutral lid + Navy Nights eye pencil + Strawberry Sorbet lip shimmer[/caption]
I watched Moonrise Kingdom recently and may or may have not been somewhat inspired by Susy Bishop’s fierce blue eye shadow.[caption id="attachment_2755" align="aligncenter" width="504"] Cool Breeze shadow + black liquid liner[/caption]
I feel like I get trapped in the habit of wearing only browns and shades of tan on my eyes. Other brown-eyed luvvies can surely relate. Incorporating something funky like a navy liner can subtly turn up the drama of a smoky eye; the full-on blue lid can add the perfect touch to an otherwise “naked” face.[caption id="attachment_2756" align="aligncenter" width="432"] Cool Breeze shadow + black liquid liner[/caption]
One great thing about Lora’s operation at Willow Tree Minerals is that shoppers have the option of ordering sample sizes of her various items for outrageously affordable prices. You can even create your own sample pack, which allows you to figure exactly which products you need to order in the full size.[caption id="attachment_2752" align="aligncenter" width="322"] my order arrived with this awesome free sample of Sugared Almond shadow[/caption]
As always, Etsy is a fount of homemade goodness, but that doesn’t end at kitty tees and Arrested Development cross-stitch patterns. Spend some time exploring the homemade makeup shops on Etsy and share your findings with us on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram!
