NYFW 2016: Best Beauty Trends

by 2 February 22, 2016

In case you missed it, last week was New York Fashion Week. While I love keeping up with the clothing styles that are going to be on top in Fall and Winter of 2016, I am even more enamored with the various beauty trends that emerge from the runways of NYFW. This year's makeup, nail, and hair styles are surprisingly (and thankfully) pretty wearable in the everyday world. Keep reading to see my favorite beauty looks from NYFW 2016. 1. Glowing skin: From the earliest moments of the opening ceremony, it was obvious that dewy skin was going to be a major feature Fashion Week. [caption id="attachment_15084" align="aligncenter" width="700"]harpers_glowing skin_opening ceremony Opening Ceremony - Photo: Harpers Bazaar[/caption] [caption id="attachment_15085" align="aligncenter" width="700"]harpers_glowing skin_rodarte Show: Rodarte - Photo: Harpers Bazaar[/caption] [caption id="attachment_15093" align="aligncenter" width="700"]nordstrom_glowing skin_marchesa Show: Marchesa - Photo: blog.nordstroms.com[/caption] DIY: To create a similar look at home, consider skipping the loose powder and instead of a shimmery highlighting powder, reach for your coconut oil. Yes, the miracle product can be used as a gorgeous skin illuminator; just gently dab your fingertip into the coconut oil, then lightly spread it across cheekbones, over your brow bones, and down the center of your nose. 2. Dark lips: No surprises here. The goth lipstick trend is perfect for stomping down the runway; this year's take is darker than ever, ranging from straight-up matte black to oxblood to burgundy. Natural hair textures: Ooooh, yass. I am luvving the feminine-but-strong curls coming down the Diane Von Furstenburg runway. The models for DVF wore gorgeous 70s-era curls that made for the perfect balance of wild and chic. [caption id="attachment_15095" align="aligncenter" width="700"]Show: DVF - Photo: R29 Show: DVF - Photo: R29[/caption] [caption id="attachment_15088" align="aligncenter" width="700"]Show: DVF - Photo: Harpers Bazaar Show: DVF - Photo: Harpers Bazaar[/caption] [caption id="attachment_15080" align="aligncenter" width="700"]Show: DVF - Photo: elle.com Show: DVF - Photo: elle.com[/caption] DIY: If you already have beautiful natural curls, CONGRATS. You can pull off this look by simply using a styling gel or cream; we luvv Loreal Paris' Curve It Elastic Curl Mousse. If you have stick-straight hair like I do, it might be time to bust out the rag rolls. Full tutorial here. 4. Spider lashes + blue shadow: Ok-- this might be my favorite of all the trends to emerge from NYFW. I love the bright cobalt shadow in the inner corner, and the spidery lashes add the drama that you're expecting in a fancy Marc Jacobs fashion show. [caption id="attachment_15092" align="aligncenter" width="700"]marc jacobs collage Show: Marc Jacobs[/caption] [caption id="attachment_15090" align="aligncenter" width="700"]into the gloss_blue eyes_marc jacobs2 Show: Marc Jacobs - Photo: Into The Gloss[/caption] [caption id="attachment_15089" align="aligncenter" width="700"]into the gloss_blue eyes_marc jacobs Show: Marc Jacobs - Photo: Into The Gloss[/caption] DIY: Spend the money on a nice blue shadow. We recommend NARS matte eye shadow in "Outremer." Use it only in the inner corners of your eyes, then blend outward. For the lashes: just keep applying. Concentrate on applying your mascara at the ends of your lashes, then use your spoolie to group lashes together. 5. French tips: They're baaaaaack. And with flair! These aren't your mama's standard french tips. Twisted hairstyles: As much as I love to see the wild, untamed curls of the DVF show, I am also a huge fan of any twisted braid look, which is why I'm totally swooning over the hair at the Public School runway show. [caption id="attachment_15097" align="aligncenter" width="700"]Show: Public School - Photo: W Magazine Show: Public School - Photo: W Magazine[/caption] [caption id="attachment_15086" align="aligncenter" width="700"]Show: Public School - Photo: Harpers Bazaar Show: Public School - Photo: Harpers Bazaar[/caption] The Nicole Miller stylists got in on the twist action, as well; how amazing are these faux dreadlocks? [caption id="attachment_15087" align="aligncenter" width="700"]Show: Nicole Miller - Photo: Harpers Bazaar Show: Nicole Miller - Photo: Harpers Bazaar[/caption] DIY: Coming soon. I'm working on a tutorial for both the twisted pony (which seems like a pretty straight forward process, tbh), as well as for the twisted dreads. Stay tuned!   Well luvvs, I hope you have enjoyed my round-up of all our favorite beauty looks from NYFW 2016. This year's runways were full of personality and charm, femininity and tough, punky trends. What did I overlook? Do you have a favorite trend that I missed?
