Recently turning an appropriate age, I celebrated it (birthday) a record three times. While I am typically not keen on “birthday month” binges of celebration, this was my second year in a strange land (Fayetteville, Ark) and I refused to spend my birthday as I did in year one…don’t ask. Time has passed and looking back at the festivities and people who shared their words, thoughts, electronic correspondences, and time on those three days were near perfect (infinite thank you to all).
Before the celebration began I was asked a handful of simple questions.
What do you want for your birthday?
How do I know what to get someone like you?
What are we doing for your birthday?
So I wanted to let you ladies in on some gift/tip ideas for that special male in your life.
Tip 1: Everyone loves a surprise… or do they? There are few things more authentic than a smile from someone you surprised. Plan something (that involves others) for your special male that they would not normally expect. Some examples include: lunch or dinner gathering, party, etc. Keep in mind that males typically like being in control of situations and this is why surprises are entertaining.
AMC's Madmen Don's surprise birthday party/surprise song/surprise dance.
Tip 2: Don’t be afraid to ask. This contradicts tip one. However, nothing makes an individual happier than getting exactly what they want.
Tip 3: Timing is everything. Don't get caught up in giving the perfect gift. Spending time with people we care about is most important to us. I think we have come to an age where the jet set life/party scene is exhausted and you want to share your day with others engaging in low-key activities. This is why tip one is important, because you can have options if you keep in mind ‘time’ and spending it with the person having the birthday.
Tip 4. Gift cards never go out of style. This is easy if you know the individual. You should have numerous options for gift cards. If you do not know the individual then a gift card is equally important, think electronics/food/movies/alcohol.
Tip 5. Most males like sports…use your imagination.[caption id="attachment_1761" align="aligncenter" width="506"] Photo Credit: Larry Brown sports[/caption]
Tip 6. There are few greater gifts than the ones that last forever. I permanently wear a handful of birthday gifts (tattoos). Hand written cards and notes tend to get appreciated and stored as well. There are many things that last if you can appropriately catch them (photographs).
Tip 7. Don't be afraid to give on your birthday. I personally share my birthday with four awesome people and we extend our thoughts/gifts to each other yearly. With this in mind, I always send someone special flowers on my birthday. This year one lucky lady received these (tip 1: everyone loves a surprise).[caption id="attachment_1756" align="aligncenter" width="585"] Photo Credit: K T facebook[/caption]
