Now that we have fully settled into the new year, it is safe to say that women's issues are going to continue to make headlines in 2015 until some real change is accomplished. While we may not see huge leaps and bounds with respect to gender equality and equal pay for women in just one year, women are speaking out about the issues more than ever and this is a huge step in the right direction! The more high profile women who speak out, the more our voices will be collectively heard. With ten months left in the year, we think these are the women that will keep making waves and bring gender equality and a mutual respect to the forefront. These are the women to watch in 2015.
A.K.A: "The Notorious RBG"(Image via BeyonceVoters.com) As one of our Supreme Court Justices, Ruth Bader Ginsburg is an inspiration to women everywhere. She is the second female Justice to have ever been appointed a position, and in our humble opinion, the only one that truly knows how to rock an amazing collar. RBG has always been awesome, but has garnered even more attention as the issue of women’s rights has become a conversation the nation is finally ready to take seriously (or rather, that has had more attention drawn to it as more rights are being threatened by Congress). This catapulted RBG into popular culture as the “Beyonce Voters” and “Notorious RBG” tumblrs gained attention. She is truly the hero that feminists need during a time where laws that deeply impact our equality are changing left and right. At eighty-one years old she is still as fiery as ever, with no fear of letting her voice be heard. Ginsburg recently made headlines after nodding off during the most recent State of the Union about which she later stated, "I wasn't 100% sober." Apparently a glass of wine was consumed at dinner, simply putting her over. We’ll end this with one of our favorite Ruth Bader Ginsburg nuggets of inspiration: “Women will only have true equality when men share with them the responsibility of bringing up the next generation.” (We like this one too: “My mother told me to be a lady, and for her, that meant be your own person, be independent.”)
