Halloween is almost here! Which means it's time to choose the perfect costume. If you're like me, you're stuck trying to find a costume that is not too gory or too scandalous (give up the sexy nurse outfit, for real). We all have an opportunity to serve up some real girl-power glamour on Halloween, and who could better represent that perfect union of pretty and powerful than the original bad ass space heroine, Princess Leia??
Ok, so I know you're probably not all Star Wars fans. But you should be. I'm new to the amazing universe of Star Wars. My husband has recently sparked my obsession by encouraging me to watch the original films in preparation for the upcoming Episode VII movie. Leia is strong, brave, and crazy chic when it comes to her hair styles. These big buns are straight-up iconic, and surprisingly easy to recreate.
Note: Today's tutorial makes use of the sock bun, my number-one life-saving hair hack. So before we get started, dig up an old pair of socks. To begin, part your hair down the middle and create two ponytails. You'll want to pull them way up near your hairline, maybe an inch above each ear.
Once you've got both ponytails secured (I used small, clear elastics), grab your socks and cut the toes off of them.
Next you're going to roll one sock up into a donut shape, then loop one of your ponytails through it.
From here you're going to roll your hair around the sock as you roll the entire bun down toward your head. Don't worry if it's a little messy. You can always tuck in loose strands as you roll.
When you've rolled your bun all the way up, use a bobby pin to secure it flat against your head.
Now roll up your other sock and repeat the process on the other ponytail.
After both buns are pinned in place, use your fingers to carefully loosen to arrange any wonky pieces. Spray with some mega-hold hairspray and you're good to go.
